CVG 1 Timothy Chapter 5

1. Do not sharply rebuke an older man, but encourage [him] [as if he is your] father, encourage young men as [if they are your] brothers,

2. encourage older women as [if they are your] mother, encourage young women as [if they are your] sisters to all purity.

3. Honor widows, those who are widows indeed.

4. But if any widow has children or grandchildren, let them first teach their own house to be godly and to give back a return [financial help] to their older relatives.

5. But a widow indeed is both one having been left alone who has hoped in God and continues in supplications and prayers night and day.

6. But the one who lives a luxurious life has died while living.

7. And command these things, in order they may be blameless.

8. But if anyone does not provide for his own, especially his household has denied the faith and is worse than an unbelieving man.

9. Let [the name of] a widow be written down having not less than 60 years, a woman of one man,

10. Being a testimony in good works, if they reared children, if were hospitable, if they washed the feet of the saints, if they aided those in distress, if they followed after every good work.

11. But avoid [putting them on the widow list] the younger widows. For when they feel the urge for sexual pleasure than for Christ, they will desire to marry.

12. Judgment will be had because they set aside their first faith.

13. But at the same time also they learn to be idle, to come around houses, and not only are idle, but also become gossips and busybodies, speaking the things which are not necessary.

14. Therefore I desire the younger widows to marry, to raise children, to be the mistress of their houses, not giving any opportunity at all to the one who lies against [the church], because [this would cause] reproach.

15. For already some turned aside after Satan.

16. If any faithful woman has widows [among their family], let her help them and let not the church be burdened so that it may help the real widows.

17. Those ruling well as elders, let them be considered worthy of double honor, especially those working in the word and in teaching.

18. For the scripture says, "do not muzzle the thrashing ox" (Deuteronomy 25:4) and the worker is worthy of his pay.

19. Do not entertain an accusation against an elder, outside of two or three witnesses.

20. Reprove those who are sinning before all, in order that the rest also may have fear.

21. I charge you solemnly before God and Christ Jesus and also before the elect angels that you guard these things without prejudice and not doing anything according to partiality.

22. Do not put hands on anyone quickly, so that you share in another's sins. Keep yourself pure.

23. No longer drink water, but use a little wine because of your stomach and your ailments which occur often.

24. The sins of some men are evident going before [them] to judgment, but others follow afterward.

25. Likewise also the good works are evident and those existing on the other hand are not able to be hidden.
